There are both primary and secondary schools of high standards in Cyprus.

Pre- primary education is available with both state and private nursery schools for children aged between 3 - 5.

Primary education is both free and compulsory, starting at the age of 5 years & 8 months. The curriculum is based on meaningful learning with an emphasis on Environment & Social subjects, Language development, Music, Art and Movement.
The basic skills of Reading, Writing and Mathematics has an important place in all grades of primary schooling.

Public Secondary education provides a six year course to children in the 11 - 17+ age group. Secondary education is divided into two cycles, The first cycle being compulsory up to the third year or age of 15.

The second cycle - the last three years of secondary education - is offered by the Lyceum of Elective Subjects or by the Technical / Vocational schools.

Further education is offered with a Greek Speaking Cyprus University and a number of English Speaking Private Colleges. Fees in such colleges range from C£2,000 to C£4,000 p.a. depending on the course and college attended.

In the field of Special Education, Disabled children are given the opportunity to grow and learn together with 'normal' children. They learn at their own pace and abilities in a normal environment which is satisfactory to psychological and physical needs.
