One of our concerns when moving abroad was the quality of the health cover but
we've been very pleasantly surprised by both the quality and the cost of the
service we've received.
Healthcare in Cyprus is inexpensive as every town has it's own Government
Hospital where fees are low. Alternatively, there are a number of private
clinics for those who prefer private treatment.
A
doctors visit or consultation costs around
C£10 - C£20 and X-rays around C£15.
Inexpensive private medical insurance is available for Cyprus residents, whether
Cypriots or not, with prices starting around C£130 p.a. A medical card will
cover all of your 'in patient' costs (i.e. not casual appointments with
specialists) and will include cover abroad and transfer to the UK for
specialised medical treatment if necessary. A small 'excess' fee is normal on
each policy but unlike the UK, smoking does not adversely affect the cost of
cover.
Lyn recently had a major operation here and the
quality of service and support from the doctors and nurses was outstanding -
don't worry about your health when moving to Cyprus!
Pharmacists are highly qualified (and usually speak English) and provide medical
advice and treatment for minor ailments.
Cyprus has a reputation for some of the
finest eye care with the lowest cost of glasses and contact lenses. Many
visitors buy their glasses here...
