Up More About Cyprus

Other great dishes are Souvla, which is large chunks of meat cooked slowly over charcoal and Kleftico which is lamb cooked slowly in a traditional clay oven. vegetarians aren't left out with with an amazing choice of fresh, locally grown vegetables.

If your tastes are mores cosmopolitan, there are restaurants providing dishes from around the world - even our little village of Pissouri boasts a Chinese and Italian restaurant!

Whatever your choice of food, eating is much more of a social occasion here than in the UK, helped in part by the predictable glorious weather - for most of the year you can eat alfresco. Barbeques are a regular occurrence (which you can obviously plan in advance or host spontaneously)  and often turn into big events with friends dropping in throughout the day.

Eating out can be very cheap too if you avoid the obvious tourist areas where prices tend to be a little higher. Wherever you go you can be assured that the welcome will be warm and genuine and you will enjoy not only the food but the friendliness and company of the staff.
The cost of living in Cyprus is remarkably low compared to the UK - can you remember the last time you filled your car for just £30? Food and drink as we mentioned earlier can be amazingly cheap outside of the tourist areas with beer costing £1 per pint, a reasonable local wine £1.50 and a bottle of 12 year old brandy just £5!

Cyprus has the lowest telephone costs in Europe and mobile phones are remarkably cheap to use too. If you or your family are just visiting, buy a 'Pay as you Go' SIM when you are here as the 'Roaming' charges for using a UK mobile in Cyprus are exorbitant.

Most fuels are extremely cheap compared to the UK although the EU has increased prices somewhat Most modern central heating installations will use gas (delivered in bulk and stored in a 500 litre tank) which costs 22c per litre. Don't believe anybody that tells you to heat your house using your 'split' air conditioning units!
Cooking is generally done on an electric oven with a gas hob fed from a butane gas bottle - refills cost just £3.50 and seemingly last forever. Electricity is relatively expensive so heating or cooling your hose with electricity can cost more than you'd expect if you're not careful.
'White Goods' and electrical appliances are very good value and all of the names you'd recognise are available here. Also, shop assistants know that they are talking about and give very good service which comes as a bit of a shock! However, high technology 'gadgets' such as the latest mobile phones tend to be expensive.

Cyprus uses the same electrical and telephone system as the UK (including our 3-pin plugs and telephone sockets) so your existing equipment will work here if you bring it with you.

There are millions of high quality furniture stores catering for every taste and offering locally made and imported products. Expect prices to be half of what you would pay in the UK and again, exceptional quality and customer service. Also, you don't have to wait months and months for your goods to arrive!
